Swane Morris is in the “wait and see” mode for a lot of his Gaston High football players, as several will be playing both sides of the ball for the first time this season.

“There are a few who played defense last year who will line up on offense too,” he said. “I think they can do it, but it’s a new thing for them.”

The Bulldogs are visiting a tough Ragland team that features a huge line, on both sides of the ball.

Jessi Corn (6-6, 325) and Devin Turner (6-2, 260) will open holes for the No. 9 Purple Devils’ running game.

“They basically run the ball out of the pistol,” Morris said. “They’ve got some men on the line.”

Morris acknowledged that films from jamborees don’t show any team’s entire package.

“Everybody holds out some of their plays in jamborees,” he said. “So there’s always a bit of an X factor for the first week of the season.”
