After last week’s win, Southside High is “probably” in the playoffs. But coach Ron Daugherty knows that a victory this week certainly clinches a berth.

“That’s what we’re trying to get across to the kids,” he said. “If we win this one, we’re definitely in.

“Then the rest will be for trying to get home-field advantage.”

The Panthers close out the season against Scottsboro and Fort Payne, both of which are also undefeated in Class 6A, Region 7 play thus far.

Lee comes in as a “scary” team that has yet to play up to its potential, according to Daugherty.

“They play good in spurts in every game,” he said. “I just hope this isn’t the week they put it together, because with the athletes they have, they could easily take control with a concerted effort.”

Daugherty said that Lee has the quickest defensive line that Southside has seen, then amended the statement to say they have the quickest “everything.”

“We’ve got a plan of what we want to try to do,” Daugherty said. “If we can execute and take advantage of our strengths, we can come out winners.”

Last week against Albertville, Aleric Williams rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown on nine carries.

Holt Keeling added 77 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes and returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.
