The Glencoe High boys basketball season came to an abrupt end on Tuesday (Feb. 3), as the hosts Yellow Jackets fell in overtime to Ohatchee, 57-53, the semifinals of the Class 3A, Area 11 Tournament.
Ohatchee appeared to have the game won with three seconds left when Micah Lee hit a jump shot to give the Indians a 42-40 lead. A desperation, length-of-the-floor pass and a lay-up by Pace Ozmint, however tied the game at 42-42 to send it to overtime.
Ohatchee, however, outscored Glencoe 15-11 in the extra session to take the win and advance to Thursday’s championship game against Westbrook Christian.
Dalton Roberts led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points, followed by Ozmint with 13.
Yates and Benjamin Glass each scored 11 points for Ohatchee.
Glencoe raced to a quick 5-0 lead before Ohatchee could get the ball upcourt. The Jackets led 11-7 lead after one period behind the shooting of Garrison Clowdus, who scored all of his seven points during the game’s first eight minutes.
The contest was tied twice in the second period at 14-14 and 16-16 before the Indians took a 23-22 at the half on a buzzer-beating basket by Dylan Yates.
The game continued to be a seesaw battle after the break, with the score tied four times during the third quarter. The visitors from Calhoun County led 34-32 lead at the end of the period.
