Act of Kindness Changes a Life: Project SEARCH intern at GRMC receives donated car

Every once in a while, something happens that  completely fills your heart—and this week, team members of the Etowah County Project  SEARCH program witnessed one of those unforgettable moments.

Olivia, a participant in the Etowah County Project SEARCH program based at Gadsden  Regional Medical Center, recently received the surprise of a lifetime: a donated car from a  generous anonymous donor.

Olivia, known for her bright smile and incredible work ethic, is completing her first rotation in the hospital cafeteria as part of the Project SEARCH internship program. From her first day, she has impressed the staff with her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive spirit.

However, one major barrier stood in her way—transportation. Although Olivia can drive, she did not have a car, which limited her ability to gain independence and move forward with employment.

Project SEARCH staff took to social media in hopes of finding a reliable, affordable vehicle for sale. Within just four hours, the post reached a kindhearted anonymous donor who decided to donate a Nissan Versa to Olivia—completely free of charge.

“When we shared the news with Olivia and her dad, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” said  Project SEARCH staff. “The joy, the shock, the tears—it was one of those moments that remind  us why we do what we do.”

This act of generosity has opened a new chapter for Olivia, providing her not only with  transportation but also with renewed confidence and independence.

“We’re so proud of Olivia and so thankful to the donor who made this blessing possible,” said  the Gadsden Regional Medical Center Project SEARCH team. “It’s a beautiful reminder that one  act of kindness truly can change a life.”

Project SEARCH is a national program that provides young adults with developmental  disabilities the opportunity to gain real-world work experience through internships in community  businesses. The Etowah County Project SEARCH program, located at Gadsden Regional  Medical Center, equips participants with job skills, confidence, and independence to help them  achieve meaningful employment.
