Several local athletes were nominated for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Football Spotlight for the week of Sept. 2.
Southside sophomore halfback Kenneth Bothwell rushed 15 times for 269 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ 34-31 win over Fort Payne.
Etowah sophomore Emil Smith caught six passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in the Blue Devils’ 35-7 victory over Douglas.
Coosa Christian senior Teppei Daisaku had 10 tackles as the Conquerors snapped an 18-game losing streak with a 7-6 win over Valley Head.
