Area runners compete at Oakville, Guntersville, Anniston meets

Several local cross country runners had solid showings on Saturday, Oct. 5.
At the Jesse Owens Classic in Oakville, Southside’s Evan Christopher placed 11th out of 271 runners in the boys’ 5K with a time of 15:34.30. Hokes Bluff’s Ethan Patterson finished 19th at 17:08.90. In the girls’ race, Ashville’s Allie Cone posted a time of 21:03.26 to place 19th out of 379 runners. Southside’s Marlee Tucker came in 32nd at 20:33.55, while Hokes Bluff’s Emma Godfrey (pictured above at right) finished 51st at 22:00.29.
At the Lake Guntersville Invitational, Glencoe’s Sarah Ponder (pictured above at left) finished fourth out of 94 runners with a time of 21:21.81.
A pair of Westbrook Christian runners placed in the top 10 and another finished in the top 20 at the Valley Cub Twilight 5K on Oct. 1 in Anniston.
In the boys’ race for the Warriors, Luke Pilotte (19:13.49) and Joseph Minkin (19:13.59) came in eighth and ninth, respectively, out of 135 competitors.
In the girls’ run, Westbrook’s Keidy Morski’s time of 24:44.77 was good for 17th place out of a field of 82 runners.
