The City of Attalla hosted its 28th Annual Heritage Day on Saturday, October 17. The event started at 9 a.m. with Attalla Mayor Larry Means welcoming everyone followed by the opening prayer, national anthem, a presentation and a performance from the Etowah High School Band.

The streets of historic downtown Attalla were packed with people from all over Etowah County and the various vendors, merchants, antique cars, children’s rides and the stages were set up. The three stages this year were the Buffalo Rock Stage, the Sponsor’s Stage and the Variety Stage.

All the stages offered a variety of music, such as zydeco, motown, gospel, southern rock and big band. At the Buffalo Rock Stage many people danced along with the music provided by Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Bill Avery and the Uptown Band and Kings of Swing. At the Sponsor’s Stage Etowah High School Singers, Strut USA, Tedie Cox, Lacey Malyn, RPM and Roscoe performed. Performing on the Variety Stage were Southridge, StarPower, Vintage Gray and Wise Choice Entertainment.

Along with the music, there were about 100 vendors ranging from food to handmade jewelry. There was funnel cake, snow cones, barbecue, lemonade, cheesesteaks and other delicious festival foods vendors as well as art, jewelry, clothing and home décor vendors.

There was a car show set up with antique cars from all over the southern states. The antique cars were restored to their former glory and on display. All the participants in the car show were eligible to win money and door prizes.

This event was not only for adults, there was also a children’s area set up with inflatables, carnival rides and games, face painting and a rock wall.

Attalla will be hosting the 29th Annual Heritage Day on the third Saturday in October 2016 and like always, admission is free.
