Bras for the Cause Auction to bring major goal to reality

For the third year, Never Surrender will host its Bras for the Cause Auction to benefit men and women fighting breast cancer. Never Surrender’s not-for-profit breast cancer support organization is dedicated to promoting early detection of breast cancer through screening exams and being a source of education and support to those affected by breast cancer.

The goal for 2014: To provide at least 100 underserved men and women with a 3D digital mammogram.

“We want every member of the community to have the opportunity to get a 3D mammogram if they need one,” Tara Fulford, executive director of Never Surrender, said.

The Bras for the Cause Auction is Never Surrender’s biggest fundraiser, and a chance for the community to help the organization accomplish their mission.

Money raised during the auction will go toward Never Surrender’s goal of 100 fully-provided mammograms for men and women in the Etowah County area who cannot afford one.  It will also provide financial assistance to those currently fighting breast cancer. Last year the auction raised approximately $20,000.

Male volunteers from Absolute Fitness will model the top 12 prize-winning bras from the Bras for the Cause decorating campaign in October 2013.

Each bra will be auctioned, and will have a package that will be auctioned off with it. These packages include an outdoor package with a YETI cooler, a pool table package, a beach package, a TV package with a 50-inch LED HDTV, and a football package with a Gus Malzahn autographed football.

The auction will be held on Feb. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pitman Theatre in downtown Gadsden. Sponsors include Advanced Imaging, Absolute Fitness, Alabama Teacher’s Credit Union, Surgical Associates of Gadsden, Team One Automotive, Its Yogurt Time, Gadsden Etowah Chamber, The Bridal Garden, Back Forty Beer Company, Holiday Inn Express and The New You.

Tickets purchased in advance are $30, and include food and drinks. A silent auction for the event will start at 6 p.m. and a live auction will start at 7 p.m.
