Coosa hurler signs with Miles

By Joshua Price/Sports Editor

Coosa Christian High School senior pitcher Hunter Wood signed a baseball scholarship to Miles College during a ceremony at the high school’s band room at noon on May 29.

The hard-throwing Wood joins former Coosa battery mate Justin Langdale, who signed with Miles College at the end of last season.

“It will be fun playing with Justin again,” Wood said when asked about pitching to his former catcher again. “He has improved a lot over the past year and I look forward to throwing to him again. It feels great to not only play college ball, but to get my education paid for. It will be tough out there. Everybody I face will have a heavy bat so I will have to throw effective strikes to stay competitive.”

Coosa Christian head coach Gary Shirley said Wood will have to work much harder to find success at the next level.

“I’m proud of Hunter because did a lot of hard work to get where he is, but he will have to work even harder to make it at the next level. It takes hard work and dedication to be successful. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Coosa Christian principal Mike Aldridge said Wood’s accomplishments were special.

“In schools this size, these opportunities don’t come often. We are very proud of the accomplishments of Hunter and all the others before him. These things can be achieved if the kids apply hard work and effort in both the classroom and the playing field.”
