Eagles fall to No. 7 Geraldine

Hokes Bluff hung with Geraldine for a while on Sept. 15, but the Class 3A No. 7 Bulldogs held the Eagles scoreless in the second half on the way to a 17-7 victory Class 3A Region 6 matchup at GHS.
Geraldine (4-0, 3-0) went ahead 7-0 at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter via Jaxon Colvin’s 15-yard touchdown run and Moses Garcia’s PAT.
The Eagles (1-2, 1-1) tied it up on Blain Barron’s 5-yard TD run, but Garcia’s 31-yard field goal late in the first half provided the Bulldogs with the lead for good.
After Hokes Bluff’s opening possession to the second half ended with a failed fourth down conversion attempt inside the Geraldine 20-yard line, Carlos Mann scored from 12 yards out early in the fourth to put the hosts up by double digits.
For Hokes Bluff, Barron rushed for 89 yards on 21 caries. Bryce Whitaker ran 10 times for 39 yards, while Alex Carter gained 39 yards on five attempts.
Whitaker was 6 for 16 in passing for 45 yards. Anderson Morgan had three receptions for 25 yards.
Coleman McGinnis finished with 12 tackles, followed by Conner Ford and Caleb Thacker with nine each and Whitaker with four. Whitaker also had an interception.
The Eagles host Westbrook Christian on Friday, Sept. 22 in region action.
