Eagles, Patriots, Conquerors come up short

Hokes Bluff lost to Anniston, 33-7, on Friday in a Class 4A, Area 5 game at AHS.

The Eagles’ lone touchdown came on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Cole Williams to Phillip Ward. 

Hokes Bluff (0-8, 0-6) wraps up region play on Friday at Cherokee County.

West End fell to Sand Rock, 42-16, on Friday (Oct. 18) in a Class 2A, Region 7 game at SRHS.

After West End took an early 8-0 lead on Timothy Parker’s 71-yard touch run and Caegan Epperson’s 2-point conversion run, the Wildcats scored 42 straight points before the Patriots closed out the scoring on Chase Blanton’s four-yard touchdown run and Epperson’s 2-point conversion run.

Blanton finished with 122 rushing yards on 24 carries.

West End (0-8, 0-6) concludes region play on Friday at home against Gaston.

Coosa Christian went toe-to-toe with Class 1A, Region 5 rival Jacksonville Christian on Friday, but when the smoke cleared the Thunder escaped with a 62-48 victory in Jacksonville. 

Johnny Grizzard scored a pair of touchdowns for the Conquerors (1-7, 0-7).

Coosa concludes region play on Friday at Woodville.
