EYO announces auditions for 2024 and 2025 season

The Etowah Youth Orchestras (EYO) recently announced auditions for the 2024-2025 season. The EYO will be auditioning for open positions in all three after-school ensembles, including the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Etowah String Sinfonia.

To audition, students must have a minimum two years  experience on their instrument.

Auditions for all ensembles will be held Tuesday through Thursday, May 21-23. Morning and afternoon audition times are available all three days and evening audition times are available on Tuesday and Thursday. All auditions are by appointment and will be held at The Music Center at Temple Beth Israel located at 761 Chestnut Street in downtown Gadsden.

The Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra – the EYO’s flagship ensemble – is an advanced full orchestra with strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and piano. The Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra – also a full orchestra with the same instrumentation – is an upper-intermediate ensemble. The Etowah String Sinfonia is an intermediate string orchestra. All three orchestras perform works by classical composers of the past and present as well as music from popular genres, including stage, screen, jazz and rock-n-roll. Annual performances include the Fall and Spring Formal Concerts, the Holiday Pops Concert and the Symphony in the Schools Concerts.

Audition information, including musical excerpts for all instruments for each of the ensembles, along with scale and sight-reading requirements, can be found at the EYO’s audition website, www.culturalarts.com/audition-for-the-eyo.

All three orchestras are auditioning for violin, viola, cello and string bass players. In addition, the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Etowah Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will be auditioning for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion and piano. Additionally, the EYO is auditioning saxophonists for entry into the Double Reed Program, which trains saxophone players on oboe and bassoon.

Auditions may be scheduled by using the registration form on the EYO audition website. For questions about audition requirements, audition scheduling or general questions about the EYO, please email Music Director Mike Gagliardo at mikegagliardo@culturalarts.org. The Etowah Youth Orchestras is a project of the Gadsden Cultural Arts Foundation.
