‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men’

By Shawn Blackmon

Imagine if your entire life could be changed by just two words.

When Jesus walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw fishermen going about their normal routines. They were working, casting nets, focused on the responsibilities of the day. Jesus did not give them a long speech or a detailed explanation of what the future would look like. He simply spoke two words that would change everything.

“Follow me.”

Those words carried the power to redirect their careers, reshape their priorities, and transform their futures. At that moment, ordinary fishermen were invited into an extraordinary purpose.

Many of us make our relationship with Jesus more complicated than it needs to be. We think we have to understand everything first. We want answers to every question. We want a clear plan and a guarantee of how things will turn out. So we analyze, evaluate, and sometimes hesitate.

But discipleship does not begin when we have everything figured out. Discipleship begins when we stop evaluating Jesus and simply start following Him.

The fishermen did not ask for a business plan. They did not ask how it would all work or what challenges might come. They heard the call and responded.

Jesus is still speaking those same words today. He is calling ordinary people people with jobs, responsibilities, questions, and imperfections. He is not asking you to be perfect or to have every detail of your life in order. He is simply inviting you to follow Him.

And that invitation meets you exactly where you are. In your workplace. In your family. In your everyday life. When you respond, Jesus begins to shape your purpose and use your life in ways you never imagined.

Matthew 4:19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Two simple words.

A life changing call.

The question is whether we are willing to respond.

Walk in grace. Stand in truth. Live blessed.
