Despite Jonathan Ford’s five touchdown passes, Westbrook Christian came up short to Ider, 39-34, in Class 2A, Region 7 action last Friday in Rainbow City.
With the Warriors (1-2, 0-2) trailing 21-0 in the second quarter, Ford and DeVernon Marshall connected on touchdown passes on 50, 27 and five yards and Ford tossed a scoring pass to Darrell Whatley. Tyler Lowery kicked all four extra points for a 28-28 tie.
Ider scored the first 17 points of the second half to take a 35-28 lead before Ford and Marshall hooked up on another touchdown pass, this time for 11 yards out, to draw within three points.
Ford completed 22-of-38 passes for 316 yards. Marshall had 10 receptions for 151 yards, while Whatley caught four passes for 96 yards.
Westbrook hosts West End on Friday in a region game.
