From God’s word – More important than ever to pray for Israel

By Toni Ford

Anyone who knows me knows that I become a bit passionate when talking about Israel, including the land, the people and the impact both have had on my spiritual life.

My life was forever changed in 2011 when I took my first trip to Israel. I came home from that trip and began my search in Scripture, wanting to learn what God said about Israel and His people. Ever since then, my love and passion for learning more about the land, the people and the heart of our Father towards Israel has only grown deeper, so much so that I continue to return to Israel almost every year. I t returned from Israel about a month ago after being over there for two weeks while serving people who have been impacted by the war thus far.

Hopefully, those reading this week’s column are aware of all that is currently taking place in Israel. As I write this column on August 1, we know that there will be an all-out attack on Israel from Iran, Yemen, Hamas and others within the next 72 hours. So, as I reached out to all my friends in Israel to let them know that we are praying and standing with them, not one of them expressed fear. Rather, they are standing in faith, knowing that our God has a greater plan and knowing that He is greater than any war. They know even greater tribulation is coming, yet they also know how the story ends. For those of us who know the Lord personally, we too know how that story will end.

Due to my love for Israel, I am asking that we pray like never before for this land and its people. I ask that we pray for America to stand with Israel, not just in words but in actions. I also pray that we all become even more grounded in the Words of our Lord so that our foundation in Him becomes even stronger in the days ahead.

Scripture tells us in Zechariah 8:2-3 that the Lord loves Jerusalem and is very zealous for Jerusalem. All throughout Scripture, we read prophecies concerning Israel and the nations that often have two fulfillments. The first is a partial fulfillment in history, while the second is a complete fulfillment at the end of the age. The Lord also has promises He has given to Israel and His people, and our prayers are a way of agreeing and reminding the Lord of His promises (Isaiah 62:6-7).

I would love for you to join me, along with millions of others, in praying for Israel daily over the next couple of weeks. I’ve listed prayer points for Israel according to God’s Word.

Numbers 6:23-26: Just as God instructed the priests on how to bless Israel, so we too are to pray for the blessing of Israel.

Daniel 9:4-19 and Psalm 102:13-21: Pray that God’s face would shine on Jerusalem.

Isaiah 11:11-16: Pray for the Lord to restore the remnant of Israel.

Isaiah 54:5-17: Pray that God’s redemption will be witnessed by all the nations.

Isaiah 45:17-24 and Isaiah 52:6-10: Pray that Israel’s salvation will impact all the nations.

Joel 2:15-32: Pray for the fulfillment of Israel and what is to come!

Lord, today we pray for the peace of Jerusalem and we pray protection over Your land and Your people. Bring them to see and understand who You are, and may they come to accept You as their Messiah.
