The Gadsden Music Club met recently at the Music Center at Temple Beth Israel for the annual International Music Relations Day and the United Nations Day Observation Program.

The National Federation of Music Clubs is one of only three music organizations chartered by Congress and the only music organization that is a member of the United Nations.

President Carol Larkins welcomed members and guests. Stacey Garmon led the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplain Brenda Emery gave the Invocation. Kristin Dunn led the Federation Hymn, Collect and the Hymn of the Month, “My Hope is Built” accompanied by Ron Higgins on the piano.

Sharron Yancy, International Music Relations Chairman, introduced Brenda Emery dressed as Cio-Cio-San (also known as Madame Butterfly) who gave biography of Giacomo Puccini, the great opera composer and this included her singing “O Mio Bambino Caro.”

Emery also described her visit to Luccia, Italy, the birthplace of Puccini, showing many beautiful photographs of the small village.

A poetry moment was given by Ron Higgins.

President Larkins announced that she and her husband John, Bob and Judy Hicks, Hazel Oliver and Pat Saye attended the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs Falls Board Meeting in Bessemer.

The Gadsden Club received several National Federation Certificates for their achievements this year.

The meeting was adjourned with the singing of “The Gift of Song,” the official NFMC Benediction.

The Gadsden Music Club is a member of the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
