Lady Cardinals advance to ACCC Tournament championship

Gadsden State outscored Wallace State-Hanceville 39 to 23 in the second half to post a 70-45 victory in the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament semifinals in women’s basketball on Tuesday (Mar. 4) in Hanceville.

The Lady Cardinals (28-6) face Shelton State in the championship game tonight (Mar. 5) at 7 p.m. 

Lacey Buchanon paced GSCC with 22 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Sarah Garner added 10 points and eight boards, while Carla Clemmons chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.
Taylor Adams pulled down 13 rebounds, while Jordan Gray had six.

In Monday’s quarterfinal round, Buchanon scored 23 points as Gadsden State defeated Alabama Southern, 69-49. 

Garner and Adams each scored nine points, followed by Clemmons, Taylor Frazier and Calishia Parker with six each.

Buchanon, Clemmons and Parker each grabbed five rebounds, while Buchanon distributed five assists. 

Gadsden State opened the tournament with a 75-49 win over Bishop State on Sunday (Mar. 2).

Buchanon scored 12 points, followed by Frazier with 11 and Mitzi Grizzard with 10.

Garner added nine points and eight rebounds, while Adams contributed eight points and nine boards.

Clemmons chipped in seven points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Ward finished with six points.
