Gaston comes up short at Lanett

Second-ranked was too much for the Gaston Bulldogs on Friday (Nov. 8), rolling to a 66-34 victory in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs.

Lanett led 34-7 at halftime before Gaston scored 27 points in the second half. 

Marlon Bridges lead Lanett with 319 yards on 21 carries and six touchdowns.

Bridges recovered a Gaston fumble on the third play of the game and two plays later took a handoff from quarterback Mandell Ray for a 44-yard touchdown to get Lanett on the board early in the first quarter.

Bridges followed up with two more scores in the first half, the first on a 77-yard run and the other on a 15-yarder up the middle with just two seconds left in the half.

Jamarious Barrow ran for an 80-yard score in the second quarter.

Braxton Collins and Shai Ogles each scored two touchdowns for Gaston, while Jailyn Britton scored one.
