Sardis improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in area play with three victories over the past week.
On Monday, Dec. 9, the Lady Lions defeated Asbury, 76-24, in Sardis City. Sardis led 20-11 after one period, 43-16 at halftime and 62-21 after three quarters. Jacee Holcomb paced the Lady Lions with 15 points, followed by Emily Zavala with 12 and Delaney Lee and Mollie Brock each with 10. Vada Willmore contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, Sardis knocked down 11 three-point baskets on the way to a 74-6 win over Crossville in Class 5A, Area 13 action. The Lady Lions led 20-0 after one period, 51-6 at halftime and 66-6 after three quarters. Holcomb scored 14 points, followed by Brock with 11, Preslee Hubbard with nine, Mya Glass (pictured at left) with eight and Jordyn Knight with seven.
On Friday, Dec. 13, eight different players sank 11 three-point baskets en route to a 50-22 win over Class 5A, Area 13 rival Boaz. Sardis led 15-1 after one period, 20-11 at halftime and 45-18 after three quarters.
“We started out the game playing extremely well and just hit a wall in the second quarter and just couldn’t find a bucket,” said Sardis head coach Heath Cullom. “At halftime we talked about someone making that big shot for us to get us going, and Jolie Taylor hit two huge 3s in the third quarter.”
Sardis ended up connecting on seven 3-point baskets during the third quarter while outscoring the Lady Pirates 25-7.
Jolie Taylor finished with nine points, followed by Lynlee Wright with seven and Knight and Holcomb wi.th six each.
Madison Tinker scored 18 points and Naomi Wise added 13 in Gadsden City’s 41-21 victory over Southside on Friday, Dec. 13 at GCHS. Tinker also had seven deflections and four steals, while Wise grabbed seven rebounds. Lauren McKee and Zoey McKinney each scored six points for the Lady Panthers.
Karleigh Sheffield and Naomi Wise each scored 16 points in Gadsden City’s 46-33 victory over Pell City on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Sheffield shot 55 percent (5-for-9) from the field while adding four rebounds, four assists, four deflections and three steals. Also for the Lady Titans (4-9), Wise grabbed six rebounds, while Destiny Whiteside contributed four rebounds, four assists, four deflections and four steals.
Destiny Whiteside finished with 12 points, six assists and five deflections to help Gadsden City defeat Huffman, 47-35, on Monday, Dec. 9 at GCHS. Also for the Lady Titans, Mariah Ragland shot 75 precent (3-for-4) from the three-point on the way to 11 points along with four deflections and two steals. Naomi Wise contributed seven points and 10 rebounds, while Madison Tinker added six points three deflections and two steals.
