Progress 2020: Glencoe’s Alaco renovates to better serve customers

Photo: Pictured above, Alaco Pharmacy located at 544 West Main Street in Glencoe near Big Chief undergoes renovations to its original building to better serve its customers. Alaco plans to reopen in April.

Alaco Pharmacy opened in Glencoe in 1979 when Buy Wise Pharmacy was purchased and changed its name to Alaco Pharmacy. Alaco stands for “Alabama Company.”

Since 1979, Alaco’s mission is to provide excellent health care and customer service to Glencoe residents and surrounding communities. With a courteous, helpful and friendly staff, Alaco employees strive to create the feeling of home in their pharmacy. This peaceful atmosphere correlates with Alaco’s typically short wait times as a result of a staff that goes the extra mile to provide the utmost efficient, exceptional care for its customers.

Located at 544 West Main Street in Glencoe, Alaco Pharmacy currently serves its community in a temporary location a few doors down while its original building undergoes renovations. By April, Alaco plans to return to its newly-renovated building that will include drive-thru access at the back of the building. Alaco will host a grand re-opening celebration following completed construction.

Alaco Pharmacy now provides immunization services and will implement health care screenings (on and off site) to include Diabetes, Cholesterol and Hypertension. The pharmacy will also offer Flu and Strep screening onsite.

As of 2019, Amanda Divine is Alaco Pharmacy’s owner and manager. A Glencoe graduate, Divine understands the close-knit nature of her hometown community and feels fortunate to provide for her friends, family and neighbors in Glencoe.

“I am able to serve my hometown community and help facilitate needs in many different aspects,” said Divine. “That is what I enjoy the most.”
