Gold Tiger reunion this Saturday

On Saturday, August 2, Gadsden High School graduates of 50 years or more will gather at The Venue for the 28th Annual Gold Tiger Club reunion.

This year the Class of 1974 is the host class, honoring the Class of 1975 as they celebrate their 50th reunion.  Gold Tigers from Classes 1944 through 1975 will be attending.

Membership in the Gold Tiger Club includes everyone who graduated from GHS 50 years or more or is a spouse of a “50 year plus” graduate.  Since 1997 this annual event has brought Gadsden High School graduates together to renew and continue friendships made in high school years.

The Titan Ambassadors from Gadsden City School welcome, serve and assist the oldest Gold Tigers each year.

This event is held each year on the first Saturday in August. Doors will open at 10 a.m., recognitions and announcements begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and fellowship. Reservations will be accepted as space allows, as will walk-ins on the day of the event.

In 2016, the Class of 1966 established a scholarship fund for JROTC students of Gadsden City High School. Each year JROTC students are awarded scholarships from the Jerry Heard Scholarship Fund.

The fund was established in memory of retired Army Colonel Jerry Heard who was serving as Gold Tiger President when he lost his life in a tragic accident. Col Heard was an avid supporter of the JROTC Program in Gadsden City Schools.

Gold Tigers were saddened by the passing of Retired Colonel Carl Harrison in 2024. Col. Harrison worked with JROTC students at Gadsden City High for many years. This year, SFC John Hedgepeth, LTC US Army (Retired) Senior Army Instructor Wayne Davenport and a selection committee have chosen these Cadets to receive scholarships: Corbin Ho, DeAunna Avery, Fred Woolfe, Yalisiah Francisco and Aries Jones.

The Gold Tiger Club Advisory Board is led by Marie Garner Johnson, President, Vance Roberson, Vice President, Beverly Mayes Godfrey, Secretary, along with three members of the hosting class and the two preceding classes.

The three members of the oldest class rotate off each year and three representatives from the next host class are appointed.
