The Spring Commencement Ceremonies for Gadsden State Community College will be held May 9 at Word Alive International Outreach in Coldwater and May 10 at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center in Gads-den. Both ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, President of the Alabama Public Service Commission, will address the graduates at the Anniston Commencement Ceremony.  She has served in her current position since 2012. Cavanaugh served in Governor Riley’s cabinet as senior advisor, and has developed extensive experience in dealing with national issues.  As President of the commission, Cavanaugh is responsible for regulating the rates and policies concerning utilities in Alabama. She is often called the “Working Commissioner” because she goes to work each day striving to keep Alabama’s utility rates some of the lowest in the nation.  Cavanaugh is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Education.

The Honorable William A. Bell, Mayor of the City of Birmingham, will be the featured speaker at the Gadsden ceremony.  Bell has served as the 33rd mayor of Birmingham since 2010. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he received his Master’s Degree in Psychology and Guidance Counseling. As one of the longest serving public officials in the City of Birmingham, Bell has played an integral role in generating over $197 million dollars for Birmingham Schools; the University of Alabama at Birmingham received more than $87 million for capital improvements during Bell’s tenure.  Mayor Bell strongly believes that he is first a servant of God and second, a servant of the people.
