The Ider Hornets came back from a 13-point deficit to defeat the Westbrook Christian Warriors, 34-26, in Class 2A, Region 6 action on Friday (Oct. 21) in Rainbow City.
The scoring began when the Warriors scored on a 54-yard touchdown run a minute and 30 seconds into the game.
Ider’s Jacob Higdon began his big night later in the quarter when he scored on a 2-yard run with 3:13 remaining. The extra point was no good and Ider trailed 7-6.
Westbrook scored on a 54-yard touchdown pass to take a 13-6 lead in the first quarter.
Ider’s Alex Brown tied the game when he scored from a yard out with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter.
The Warriors jumped out to their biggest lead of the night with two quick scores. The first came on a 51-yard rushing touchdown and the second game on a pass from the same distance.
Higdon continued to churn up yardage, however, and he helped the Hornets cut into the lead when he scored on a 72-yard run before the half.
The Warriors were hanging onto a 26-20 lead at halftime.
Ider’s defense stepped up in a big way for the second half as the offense continued to run the ball effectively.
Higdon’s third touchdown run came from 66 yards out and his final one from eight yards out to give the Hornets their 34-26 lead.
Westbrook (3-6, 2-5) finishes out the season on Friday (Oct. 28) at Hokes Bluff.
