Week 7 Previews and Predictions
Thursday, April 25 – Sunday, April 28
Kentucky at Ole Miss. The Wildcats were ranked in the top 10 earlier this season but have slipped tremendously over the last few weeks. On the other hand, the Rebels swept two straight conference foes, including Tennessee this past weekend. Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco picked up his 500th win with the Rebels. The Wildcats cannot afford to lose another series, but the Rebels are the hotter team. Series Prediction: Ole Miss 2, Kentucky 1.
Auburn at Missouri. Auburn is only one game ahead of Missouri in the SEC play, and both teams are in the bottom four of the SEC standings. The winner of this series will be in good shape to make the SEC tournament, while the loser’s chances will take a serious hit. Auburn and Missouri each lost a series last weekend, but teams both won one game to avoid being swept. Auburn knocked off Mississippi State, while Missouri upset Florida. This is a crucial series for both teams. Series Prediction: Auburn 2, Missouri 1.
Mississippi State at Vanderbilt. Both teams won two out of three games last weekend, although they each were expected to sweep their respective opponents. Vanderbilt shockingly lost a game to last-place Georgia, although Vandy did win the last two games of the series. The Commodores likely have a top two seed locked up for the SEC tournament, while the Bulldogs are jockeying for better position in the standings. Series Prediction: Vanderbilt 2, Mississippi State 1.
Texas A&M at Alabama. After a hot start in conference play, Alabama has struggled in recent weeks. The Crimson Tide have an opportunity to get back on track this weekend against the Aggies. Texas A&M lost a highly-contested series to rival Arkansas last weekend and currently reside in sixth place in the SEC West. A series win would be a huge momentum boost for either team. Series Prediction: Alabama 2, Texas A&M 1.
Tennessee at Florida. The Gators have surged in the SEC standings the last few weeks and have another opportunity to pick up a series win this weekend against the Volunteers. Ole Miss swept Tennessee last weekend, and the Vols are currently tied for 12th in the league standings. The Gators should pick up another home sweep this weekend in Gainesville. Series Prediction: Florida 3, Tennessee 0.
Arkansas at Georgia. The Bulldogs are in last place in the SEC but have an opportunity to upset the Razorbacks this weekend in Athens. Arkansas is coming off of an emotional series against rival Texas A&M, and although they have been playing well, the Hogs cannot afford to overlook the Bulldogs. If Georgia wants a chance to make the conference tournament, the Dawgs need to steal a game or two this weekend. Series Prediction: Arkansas 2, Georgia 1.
Series of the Week
South Carolina at LSU. In one of the most anticipated matchups of the SEC regular season, the Gamecocks travel to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers. LSU has been dominant at home this season, while South Carolina has been streaky on the road. The Tigers should win this series, but if the Gamecocks’ bats are hot, they could steal one on the road. Series Prediction: LSU 3, South Carolina 0.
