Week 7 Previews and Predictions

Kentucky at Auburn. With only four weeks remaining in the regular season, Auburn is running out of time to reach the postseason. If the season ended today, the Tigers would be on the outside looking in for the SEC Tournament. The good news is that AU is only a game behind Arkansas and Tennessee in the SEC, but the Tigers must start stringing together some wins immediately. Series Prediction: Kentucky 2, Auburn 1.

Tennessee at Missouri. Both teams are at the bottom of the SEC at the moment but each has a chance to separate themselves this weekend. Missouri is in last place but can get right back in the mix with a series win. Tennessee is up two games on the Tigers, and a series win – or possible sweep – would go a long way in securing a bid to the SEC Tournament. Series Prediction: Tennessee 2, Missouri 1.

Florida at South Carolina. This is the biggest series of the season in the conference. The Gators and Gamecocks have been the best two teams in the league for the majority of the season, and both squads are capable of winning a national title. South Carolina has a one-game advantage in the standings, but Florida is still ranked No. 1 in the polls. Series Prediction: Florida 2, South Carolina 1.

LSU at Ole Miss. The Rebels and Tigers currently are tied in the SEC West Division standings and are only two games behind Texas A&M for first place. LSU lost twice to Mississippi State at home last weekend, but this remains a highly anticipated matchup between two top-15 teams. Series Prediction: Ole Miss 2, LSU 1.

Georgia at Vanderbilt. Although Georgia has been much more competitive this season than in recent years, the Bulldogs aren’t quite yet an NCAA Tournament-caliber team yet. Winning a game at Florida was impressive, but UG still lacks the consistency of the upper echelon teams. Meanwhile, while Vanderbilt isn’t as dominant as it was when the Commodores won the national title two years ago, this is still a very dangerous team capable of making a deep run in the tournament. Series Prediction: Vanderbilt 2, Georgia 1.

Texas A&M at Arkansas. The Aggies have been the best team in the West for most of the season and currently are ranked second in the country behind Florida. However, Mississippi State, LSU and Ole Miss are only two games behind A&M in the division. Arkansas is in desperate need of conference wins and might be in jeopardy of missing the postseason altogether.

Mississippi State at Alabama. Alabama is in the middle of the pack in the SEC right now, but a series win over Mississippi State could quickly change that position. ‘Bama has played well against the top teams in the division, having already beaten LSU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss this season. The Bulldogs have proven that they can win games on the road, as they just took a series at LSU. Series Prediction: Mississippi State 2, Alabama 1.
