Though Riverview Regional Medical Center was included in the Community Health Systems (CHS) acquisition of 71 hospitals from Health Management Associates (HMA) on Jan. 27, the Gadsden hospital is expected to have a new owner before the end of the year.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that CHS divest Riverview Regional within approximately seven months.
“In many ways, our brief period of CHS affiliation will be characterized as ‘business as usual,’” said Riverview Regional Medical Center CEO Jim Edmondson.
“Patients and visitors to RRMC will not notice any changes at the hospital.
‘Inpatient and outpatient services continue as usual, and the hospital participates in all the same private insurance contracts and government programs.
“Our relationship with employees and physicians also remains unchanged.”
RRMC leadership will meet with CHS representatives and an FTC-appointed Monitor in the next few weeks to begin transition planning.
“Our planning will likely continue over the coming months, but our mission will remain as it has for more than 80 years – to deliver compassionate and high-quality healthcare services that improve the quality of life for our patients, physicians, and the communities we serve,” said Edmondson.
CHS owns Gadsden Regional Medical Center, located in East Gadsden.
