Kids Korner: Riding Ponies

Last Thursday I got to stay at the barn all day. I would do almost anything to stay at the barn all day with my best pal Lavender. Besides being with Lavender all day, I get to spend the day with several other horses, cats, chickens, dogs and some ponies. It truly is a big’ olé barn family.

Cassidy, my trainer, had the day all planned out for us. When I arrived, I got to go out in the pasture to catch Lavender, and bring her to the barn so I could feed her. Lavender is very easy to catch, but a few months ago that was a different story. Now, I always bring treats to bribe her. She loves apples, carrots and peppermints. After I have caught her most of the other horses follow us back to the barn for their food too. They know our routine. After that, I did some barn chores before our Thursday morning Trotting in truth is a weekly Gospel Bible study we have at the barn. We aren’t just learning about horses; we also learn about God too.

After the Bible study I got to saddle a pony to ride. I have never ridden a pony before, and it was pretty awesome. If you aren’t

familiar with ponies, they are fast little creatures. A lot of people think ponies are lazy animals, but that is false. At one point, I felt like I was on a merry- go-round going in circles as fast as it would go. I am used to a fast thoroughbred but this is something different. I found my new love for pony riding. My birthday is a little over a week away and I have just added a pony to the list!
