Lady Conquerors edge Appalachian in area tournament championship

Coosa Christian defeated Appalachian, 7-6, in the championship game of the Class 1A, Area 12 Tournament on May 3 at AHS.
The Lady Conquerors (12-11) qualified for the Class 1A North Central Regional Tournament this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Coosa will face Addison on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Coosa opened the area tournament with a 16-2 win over Southeastern, followed by a 4-3 victory over the host Lady Eagles. The Lady Conquerors fell 14-3 to Appalachian in the first title game before posting the one-run win in the second championship contest.
For the tournament for Coosa, Tournament MVP Alaina Hampton had 10 singles, a double, a home run, five RBI, eight runs scored and six steals; Claire Stephens had two singles, a home run, a double, five RBI and six runs scored; Sidnee Courington had three singles, three double, one RBI and five runs scored; Payton West had five singles, two RBI and five runs scored; Somer Stephens had five singles, a double, two RBI and five runs scored; Alyssa Padgett had four singles, a double and two RBI; Mary Beth Williamson had four singles, three runs scored and five steals; Carol Garmany had four singles, two runs scored and three steals; Erica Snow had two hits; and Autumn Crump had a hit.
Joining Hampton on the all-tournament team were Claire Stephens, Somer Stephens and Alyssa Padgett.
