Lady Panthers win county volleyball tournament

The Southside High volleyball team defeated West End, 25-13, 25-13 in the championship game of the Etowah County Schools Volleyball Tournament on Saturday (Sept. 19) at Gaston.

The Lady Panthers reached the title match following a 25-22, 25-15 semifinal win over Sardis. 

Tournament MVP Blakely Alfred finished with 22 assists, 15 kills, two aces, two blocks and one dig. 

Mallary Smith had 16 kills, followed by Aleigh Townsel with 14, Kenzie McCurdy with 11, Alex Smith with eight, Alex Rich with four and Averi Millhoff with two. 

Tori Opdycke distributed 35 assists. She and Mallary Smith each had four aces, while Alex Smith had three and Millhoff two. 

Townsel had seven blocks, followed by McCurdy with six, Mallary Smith and Alex Rich with three each, Alex Smith with two and Millhoff with one. 

Savanna Yancey came up with five digs, while Elizabeth Lee had three and Taylor Griffin and Christie Morgan one each.

Mallary Smith, Townsel, and Opdycke joined Alfred on the all-tournament team.
