Sparkman put together a late rally to post a 40-37 victory over Gadsden City in girls basketball on Tuesday (Nov. 16) at GCHS.
The third quarter saw Gadsden City take a 33-27 lead behind the scoring of junior guards Brooke Burns and Haley Troup. But Sparkman outscored the hosts 13-4 down the stretch to secure the win.
“We knew it would be a defensive struggle with our young team,” said Gadsden City head coach Jeremy Brooks. “We played a good game early but we got a little fatigued at the end. But we’ve played some strong competition early, and that will help us down the stretch.”
Gadsden City (2-2) jumped to a 10-8 lead after one quarter and a 21-20 lead at the half.
Burns notched 11 of her team-high 15 points in the first half. Troup finished with 13 points.
Seauna Collins led Sparkman with 22 points.
