Southside’s late-game rally fell short against Alexandria on October 14, as the Panthers lost 54-47 in Class 5A, Region 6 action at AHS.
Trailing 54-33 points with less than five minutes left, the Panthers scored two touchdowns to draw within seven points, but a pass incompletion on fourth down halted Southside’s comeback attempt.
For the Panthers (5-3, 3-2), Gauge Nesmith (pictured above at right) finished with 409 total yards and five touchdowns. He was 13 for 21 in passing for 269 yards and four touchdowns and rushed 11 times for 140 yards and a TD.
Jordan Bryan had five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown, while Cody Roberts caught four passes for 81 yards and a TD.
Mason Teague ran for 67 yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts.
Southside, which has already clinched a playoff berth, wraps up region play this Friday (Oct. 21) at home against Moody.
