Weaver scored a touchdown on an untimed down after the fourth-quarter clock expired to give Weaver a 37-34 Class 3A Region 6 victory over Westbrook Christian in high school football on Friday, Oct. 25 in Rainbow City. Kaden Gooden’s 2-yard TD run followed a pass interference penalty called on the Warriors.
Westbrook dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the region, while Weaver improved to 3-6 and 3-4. Despite the loss, the Warriors remain in the hunt for the region’s fourth and final playoff spot. Westbrook needs a win next week at Walter Wellborn coupled with a Weaver loss to J.B. Pennington.
For Westbrook, Brody Blevins rushed 27 times for 170 yards and four touchdowns and was 7 for 8 in passing for 100 yards. Brodey Wood gained 60 yards on 11 carries.
Beckham Hammontree had three receptions for 19 yards. Brodie Johnson caught two passes for 56 yards and Bo Kilgo (pictured above) caught two for 25.
Defensively, Titus Jones finished with 18 tackles, including three for a loss, while Noah Wright had 13 stops and a sack. Brooks Whiteside had 11 tackles, followed by Jaxon Marotz with nine, Max Legg with seven, Jackson Ramsey with six and Easton Skaggs, Jake Haney and Taylor Brown with five each.
Gooden completed 11 of 21 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns. KeShawn Allen caught nine passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns.
The Warriors close out the season at Walter Wellborn on Friday, Nov. 1.
