Like offense? This Class 4A, Region 6 game could be the game for you tonight on the shores of the Tennessee River.

Sardis High coach Gene Hill remarked that if both teams are clicking, it could come down to who has the ball last, reminiscent of last season’s tilt.

“They would have a tough time stopping our passing game and we would have trouble stopping their runners,” he said of Guntersville. “That is, if the key players are healthy enough and things go right.”

As far as healthy, the Lions are banged up from the Geraldine game. Hill figures that Guntersville is in the same situation after a big win over arch-rival Arab.

That doesn’t mean that neither team will back down, however. Too much at stake with the second half of the season starting.

This competitive Week 5 matchups will help each team, too, as both had to play a four-quarter game – something that is a bit un-usual for both squads.

Sardis has scored more than 41 points per game and given up an average of 15. Meanwhile, Guntersville has scored 33 and allowed 12.

“This Guntersville team is better than the typical Guntersville team,” Hill said. “They’ve got more than 20 seniors and nearly all of their starters are seniors.

“Their offensive line averages about 280 pounds and they just pound you, allowing their skill players to get a lot of yardage.”

Last week against Geraldine, Will Scott completed 12-of-19 passes for 249 yards, while Brett Rains caught fives passes for 140 yards and Hallmark four for 45.

Braun Pee led Sardis on the ground with 30 yards on four rushes.
