Sardis High has three Class 4A, Region 6 games remaining. If the Lions are to make it to the postseason, they must win at least two. The Lions currently hold down the fourth spot in the region standings, a game ahead of Hokes Bluff. Cleburne County is tied with Saks atop the standings.

Suffice it to say that a victory this week would constitute an upset, as Cleburne County is one of the best teams in 4A.

“They’re fundamentally sound,” Sardis coach Gene Hill said. “Everything about the team is sound. The quarterback (Brady Padgett) is really good and they’ve got the best receiver (Jeremiah Blake) that we’ve seen. He may be the best receiver in 4A.

“There are four or five defensive players who are well above average. They’re just one of the most fundamentally sound teams I’ve seen.”

As for Sardis, the injury bug has bitten the Lions, as seven players missed Monday’s practice. Hill, obviously, hopes to get them back by game time.

“We’re just trying to get well,” he said.

Last week against White Plains, Keenan Lewis rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.

Jesse Hubbard rushed for 71 yards and one score on 15 attempts. He also had five catches for 33 yards.

Bryan Noblitt rushed for 62 yards and a TD on four carries.

Logan Gaskin was 12-of-20 in passing for 115 yards and three touchdowns.

Austin Hallmark had five receptions for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
