Local football players recognized

Three local players were nominated for both the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Week and the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight honors. 

West End junior Hunter Grant had a pair of interceptions, returning one 40 yards for a touchdown, in a 59-30 win over Coosa Christian. He also rushed and passed for a combined 244 yards of offense and four touchdowns. Grant’s production helped end the Patriots’ 15-game losing streak.

Glencoe senior running back Thomas Ozmint rushed 33 times for 255 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 30-yard TD pass in the Yellow Jackets’ 42-14 victory over Hokes Bluff.

Southside senior running back Holt Keeling gained 164 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and caught a 27-yard TD pass in the Panthers’ 49-14 win over St. Clair County.
