Local football teams come up short in Week 9

Etowah lost to Cullman, 31-7, on October 21 in Attalla. The Blue Devils (6-3, 5-1), Oneonta (8-1, 5-1) and Cherokee County (8-1, 5-1) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the Class 4A, Region 6 standings. Playoff seeding will be determined following the final regular season games on October 28. Etowah closes out the regular season at Southside this Friday (Oct. 28).

Hokes Bluff fell to Piedmont, 28-8, in Class 3A, Region 6 action on October 21 at Mike Robertson Field.
The Eagles’ lone score came in the game’s final seconds on Bryce Whitaker’s 49-yard touchdown run and Leon Chen’s extra point.
For Hokes Bluff (4-5, 3-4), Conner Masters was 6 for 18 in passing for 72 yards. Cole Stone caught three passes for 22 yards.
Whitaker rushed for 62 yards on five carries, while Noah Sprayberry ran five times for 43 yards.
Stone had 11 tackles, followed by Logan Weimann with six and Coleman McGinnis with five.
Dakota Holcomb had two sacks, while Chen had an interception.

Sardis fell to Class 5A, Region 7 rival Guntersville, 41-0, on October 21. The Lions (3-6, 1-5) finish the season this Friday (Oct. 28) at home against Hokes Bluff.

Ashville lost to Class 4A, Region 6 foe Oneonta, 4-0, on October 21. The Bulldogs (2-7, 1-5) close out the season this Friday (Oct. 28) at Munford.

Westbrook Christian lost to Sylvania, 45-22, in a Class 3A, Region 6 game on October 21. The Warriors (4-5, 2-5) end the season at home this Friday (Oct. 28) against White Plains.

Gaston fell to Class 2A, Region 6 rival Pleasant Valley, 20-14, on October 21 at Captain Bill Boyd Field. The Bulldogs (2-7, 1-5) close out the season this Friday (Oct. 28) at Brindlee Mountain.
