Local football teams come up short

Hokes Bluff lost to Piedmont, 38-14, in Class 3A, Region 5 action on October 15.
Tucker Griffin scored both of the Eagles’ touchdowns, the first a 3-yard run at 7:09 of the second quarter and a 6-yard sprint with 6:33 remaining in the game.
For Hokes Bluff, Jordan Bradley rushed six times for 75 yards, while Griffin gained 73 yards on 15 carries.
Bradley was 5 for 11 in passing for 65 yards. Cole Stone had three receptions, while Jaylen Simmons caught two passes.
The Eagles (3-5, 3-3) finish out region play this Friday (Oct. 22) at home against Saks.

Etowah fell to Lipscomb Academy, 70-10, on October 15 in Nashville, Tenn.
For the Blue Devils (4-4, 4-1), Trace Thompson was 12 for 24 in passing for 97 yards and a touchdown. Steven Jones, Andrew Pierce and Josh Hendrix each had three receptions. Hendrix paced the Etowah ground game with 59 yards on 12 carries.
The Blue Devils visit Dora this Friday (Oct. 22) to close out region play.

Glencoe lost to Saks, 54-7, in Class 3A, Region 5 action on October 15 in Anniston. The Yellow Jackets lone score came with 2:16 left in the game on Andrew Wright’s 1-yard touchdown run.
Wright paced the Glencoe ground game with 77 yards on 21 carries, while Levi Long finished with 52 yards on eight attempts. Mason Teague had seven tackles, followed by Aaron Mann with six and Garrett Gaskin with five.
The Yellow Jackets (0-8, 0-6) conclude region play this Friday (Oct. 22) at home against Pleasant Valley.

Westbrook Christian fell short against Class 2A, Region 6 rival Cleveland, 49-28, on October 15.
For the Warriors, Mason Coley was 19 for 33 in passing for 292 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Kelly caught five passes for 68 yards, followed by Asher Keck with four receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown. Keck was also the team’s leading rusher with 78 yards on 12 carries.
Steven Barnes and Ethan Daffron each caught three passes.
Westbrook (2-6, 1-5) ends region play this Friday (Oct. 2) at home against Gaston.

Gaston lost to Locust Fork, 53-19, on October 15 in Class 2A, Region 6 action.
For the Bulldogs (1-8, 1-5), Kobe Harris rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Ethan Herran was 7 for 14 in passing for 99 yards. Justin Pope had six receptions for 102 yards.
Gaston closes out its season this Friday (Oct. 22) at Westbrook Christian.

West End lost to Southeastern, 35-0, in a Class 2A, Region 6 game on October 22 in Remlap.
For the Patriots, Tyler Jones was 12 for 21 in passing for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Thad Pearce had seven receptions for 78 yards.
Rockman Sainsbury led defensively with 10 tackles, followed by Isaiah Roberson, Jake Edwards and Ashton Self with five each.
West End (4-5, 2-4) finishes out the season this Friday (Oct. 22) at home against Locust Fork.

Coosa Christian fell to Class 1A, Region 7 rival Sumiton Christian, 33-7, on October 22 in Sumiton. The Conquerors close out region play this Friday (Oct. 22) at home against Cedar Bluff.
