Local gridders recognized by AHSAA

Several area players were recognized in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight for Week 2 of the 2015 high school football season.

Gadsden City senior quarterback Ahmad DeRamus was 8-of-10 passing for 206 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another score as the Titans beat Sparkman 66-34. All DeRamus’ yards and touchdowns came in the first half.

Westbrook Christian senior quarterback Joseph Schauer completed 13-of-18 passes for 163 yards with two touchdowns and rushed we times for 109 yards and two more scores as the Warriors came from behind to edge Ohatchee, 35-34.

Gadsden City senior receiver Darnell Mooney caught touchdown passes of 27, 12 and 12 yards and returned a punt 55 yards for a score in the Titans’ 66-34 over Sparkman.

Glencoe senior safety Pace Ozmint had 22 tackles in the Yellow Jackets’ 28-27 overtime win over Walter Wellborn.
