Local non-profit receives state grant

Governor Kay Ivey recently awarded approximately $1.05 million in grants to eight organizations that serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in 20 Alabama counties.

2nd Chance, Inc., which serves Etowah, Calhoun, Cleburne and Talladega counties, will use its grant portion of $108,868 to provide shelter, supportive services and community outreach to domestic violence victims.

“We have a responsibility to protect the victims of these crimes and to provide them access to professional, compassionate care in a timely manner,” Ivey said. “I commend these agencies for offering comprehensive services to victims throughout the state.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“ADECA supports organizations like these throughout the state to ensure that communities are able to give victims their best chance to heal and live happy, productive lives,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “ADECA joins Governor Ivey in support of the vital work done at these centers.”
