Local players named to North basketball roster

Three area high school juniors were selected participate in the annual North/South All-Star girls basketball team. 

Gadsden City’s Haley Troup and Brooke Burns and Hokes Bluff’s Kendall Johnson were named to the North rosters earlier this week. The girls’ and boys’ basketball games will be played at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on the Alabama State University campus on July 20 at 6 and 8 p.m., respectively.

Troup averaged 17.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 80 percent (111-for-139) at the foul line in 27 games. 

Burns was good for 20.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 84 percent (109-for-130) from the free throw line. She and Troup helped the Lady Titans finish with a 16-9 record. 

Johnson averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.0 blocks while helping the Lady Eagles post a 28-4 record, win an area championship and make it to the Class 4A Northeast Regional Tournament.

Troup was named to the ASWA All-State first team, while Burns and Johnson both made the third team. 

The AHADCA All-Star Games also include in-state all-star games in soccer, baseball, volleyball and softball. The 56th North-South All-Star football game will be played Thursday night, July 21, at the Cramton Bowl.
