Several area football players were nominated for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Football Spotlight for the week of Oct. 18.
Southside sophomore Cooper Yancey (pictured above at left) kicked a 41-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the Panthers’ 30-23 win over Gadsden City.
Gadsden City senior T.J. Worthy rushed 12 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns and had three receptions for 78 yards and a score in the Titans’ 30-23 loss to Southside-Gadsden. Worthy’s 60-yard TD run in the second quarter broke the school career rushing mark set by Alonzo Harris in 2010.
Southside senior Koal Garrett rushed 24 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ 30-23 win over Gadsden City.
Coosa Christian freshman Kylen Johnson had four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown, returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the Conquerors’ 62-0 win over West End.
Three Hokes Bluff players rushed for over 100 yards in the Eagles’ 56-19 victory over Ashville. Bryce Whitaker gained 150 yards and two touchdowns on 12 attempts, Blaine Barron caried 15 times for 146 yards and three touchdowns and Brenton Hale ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Westbrook Christian senior Noah Wight had 15 tackles, including three for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble in the Warriors’ 33-30 loss to J.B. Pennington.
Etowah senior Jameson Scissum rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.UM, ETOWAH. Was 19 for 30 in passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 50 yards on eight carries in the Blue Devils’ 28-21 victory over White Plains. Lamont Richardson had five receptions for 140 yards and two TDs and returned a punt 60 yards for a score.
Glencoe senior jake Boggs rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in the Yellow Jackets’ 46-21 loss to Ohatchee.
