Local track meet results from May 4-5.
Helped by Treshunn Miliner’s silver medal performance, the Gadsden City boys track & field team finished 19th out of 28 teams at the Class 6A state meet on May 4-5 in Gulf Shores.
Miliner’s time of 10.87 in the 100-meter dash was only an eight of a second off the gold-medal winner.
Also earning points was De’Kaviyan Davis, who finished fifth in the high jump.
A pair of Gadsden City High girls earned points at the Class 6A state track & field meet on May 4-5 in Gulf Shores.
Chelsea James took sixth in the 100-meter dash, while Portia Sims finished seventh in the shot put.
The Etowah High boys track & field team finished 16th out of 38 teams at the Class 5A state meet on May 4-5 in Gulf Shores.
Medaling for the Blue Devils was the third-place 400-meter relay team of Darrin Peterson, Trey Parker, Ladonis Palmore and Tevin Peterson with a time of 42.86 seconds.
Darrin Peterson came up just short of the bronze in the 100-meter dash, as his time of 10.96 seconds was 0.8 seconds out of third place. Peterson also finished in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.35 seconds.
A standout performance by Selena Tarvin powered the Sardis girls track & field team to a 10th place showing out of 26 teams at the Class 3A state meet on May 4-5 in Selma.
Tarvin’s lone medal came in the 100-meter hurdles, where her time of 16.66 seconds was good for the second-place silver medal.
Tarvin barely missed out on another medal in the 300-meter hurdles, in which her 49.34-second effort was just a 16th of a second from a bronze medal. Tarvin also earned points with her sixth-place finish in the long jump and eighth-place showing in the triple jump.
Also accumulating points for the Lady Lions was Alexis Powell in the 400-meter dash (sixth place), Leah Williams in the 100-meter hurdles (seventh place) and the Lady Lions’ 400-meter relay team (eighth place).
For the Sardis boys, Cory Shands took sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 139 feet and eight inches.
Glencoe High’s Devonta Toles finished fifth in the 100-meter dash at the Class 3A state track & field meet on May 4-5 in Selma. Toles posted a time of 11.38 seconds.
The Westbrook Christian girls and boys track & field teams finished 14th and 15th, respectively, at the Class 2A state meet on May 4-5 in Selma.
Lorien Welch had solid showing for the Lady Warriors, posting a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.18 seconds), fifth in the long jump (15 feet, 2.5 inches) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.21 seconds). Also gaining points was Westbrook’s 400-meter relay team, which finished in eighth place.
For the boys, Devernon Marshall took fifth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.65 seconds. Also garnering points were the Warriors’ sixth-place 1600-meter relay team and the eighth-place 3200-meter relay team.
