Locals compete at Icebreaker meet

Two local high school relay teams placed in the top 10 and several area individuals finished in the top 20 at the Icebreaker indoor track and field on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Ashville boys 4×800-meter relay team of Maddox Vann, Coby Caswell, Drew Gargone and Ryan Matthews came in seventh place with a time of 9:33.96, while the Bulldogs’ 4×400-meter relay team of Vann, Caswell, Matthews and Kanyon White took ninth place at 3:48.82.
Southside’s Kathyn Webb finished just outside the top 10, as her height of four feet and six inches put her in 11th place in the girls high jump.
Matthews’s time of 4:58.18 in the boys 1600-mter run was good for 12th place, as was the AHS girls 4×400-meter relay team’s time of 4:57.11 courtesy of Taylor Knight (pictur3d above), Presley Blackwell, Evelyn Dole and Ayunna Manning.
Matthews also came in 16th in the boys 800-meter run at 2:12.28.
Taking 13th place was Gadsden City’s Kyla Price in the girls 400-meter dash (101.90) and Ashville’s Taylor Knight in the girls 1600-meter run (5:55.07). Knight also finished 16th in the 800-meter run at 2:41.77.
Coming in 17th was Southside’s Evan Christopher in the boys 1600-meter run (4:39.54) and
White in the boys 400-meter run (54.69).
