Locals nominated for prep football spotlight

Several local players were nominated for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Prep Spotlight for the week of October 28.
Etowah senior quarterback Trace Thompson threw for five touchdowns and ran for another in the Blue Devils’ 42-26 victory over Southside. Thompson was 14 for 25 in passing for 189 yards and rushed 14 times for 83 yards. Senior receiver Omareon Finch had six receptions for 93 yards.
Coosa Christian sophomore linebacker Clete O’Bryant (pictured above at right) finished with 14 tackles (including four for a loss), a forced a fumble and an interception in the Conquerors’ 43-14 win over Victory Christian. Senior halfback Jai Mostella rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
Westbrook Christian senior halfback Karmichael Cattling rushed for 199 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries in the Warriors’ 47-27 victory over White Plains.
Southside junior quarterback Gauge Nesmith was 22 for 36 in passing for 318 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ 42-26 loss to Etowah. His top receivers were Jordan Bryan, who caught nine passes for 135 yards, and Scotty Motes, who had seven receptions for 100 yards.
