A new year is bringing a new project to Noccalula Falls Park and Campground. The campground will be receiving an $11.3 million renovation that is set to begin January 15, 2024.
The renovation will include new underground utilities throughout the campground, renovation of both bathhouses, construction of a new zero-entry swimming pool and pavilion, conversion of the existing administrative office into an additional rentable cabin, construction of a new administrative office, overall landscape improvements, and more.
“This campground was developed many years ago, so most sites don’t fit today’s RVs,” said Noccalula Falls Park Supervisor Christina Richardson. “These new sites will be spacious with full hookups that accommodate any type of RV.”
The project also includes the reconstruction of the parking lot between Noccalula Road and the campground entrance, new signage, and public safety enhancements such as a new Gadsden Fire Station No. 5. The fire station located at the park will be custom-designed to match the new look of the campground with the addition of a new police sub-precinct for enhanced security and safety of campers and residents.
“This is a great opportunity to improve things not only for our visitors and tourists but also for our first responders and residents on Lookout Mountain,” said Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford.
Construction will start on Jan. 15 and is expected to take around a year to complete.
Access to the paid portion of Noccalula Falls Park, the Black Creek Trails, and the wedding chapel will not be affected during this time.
“We have a one-of-a-kind asset with Noccalula Falls, and we love that people come from around the country to spend time here,” Ford said. “This will be a great remodel and a huge upgrade for the campground, and we’ve needed it for a long time. Outdoor recreation and eco-tourism are growth drivers for our local economy, so we are lucky to have something like this in our backyard.”
