O’Bryant huge in Coosa shutout of DHCA

Coosa Christian continued its domination of Class 1A competition on Sept. 15 in Gadsden.
One week after administering a 49-0 thrashing to Gaylesville, the Conquerors dismantled
previously undefeated Decatur Heritage Christian Academy by a score of 48-0.
Clete O’Bryant was a major factor in all three phases of the game in Coosa’s second straight 1A, Region 6 victory. The junior linebacker/receiver/running back/kick returner finished with 288 combined yards and six touchdowns. He caught seven passes for 152 yards for a 21.7 yard average and two touchdowns, returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown and ran back a kickoff 60 yards. Defensively, O’Bryant had 10 tackles, including six for a loss, and recovered a fumble.
As a whole, the Conquerors limited the Eagles to 91 yards of offense while causing five turnovers, three of them on fumble recoveries. Meanwhile the Conquerors touched the visitors for 408 yards in offense.
Also for Coosa, John David Justus was 14 for 18 in passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns. He also had six carries for 37 yards and two TDs.
Eli Motes had four receptions for 36 yards, while Dylan Edwards caught two passes for 32 yards.
Joseph East led the way on the ground with eight carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Kanon Wilson rushed seven times for 47 yards and a score.
Cade Mickler had 10.5 tackles, followed by Motes and D.J. Mackey with eight each, Josh Hester with 7.5, Radley Mays with 6.5 and Zayden Franklin with 5.5. Franklin and Mackey both had a sack, while Mickler had an interception. Edwards and Hester each recovered a fumble.
The Conqueror continues region play this Friday, Sept. 22 at Valley Head.
