Patriots, Bulldogs, Conquerors lose

West End lost to Cleveland, 51-22, in a Class 2A, Region 7 game last Friday (Sept. 11) in Walnut Grove.

The Patriots (1-2, 0-2) were down 45-0 before scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. Caegan Epperson scored on a 76-yard kickoff return, with Andre Little running for the two-point conversion. Hunter Grant then hooked up with Hunter Tarvin on a 36-yard scoring pass. Jordan Mailn ran for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Grant was 12 for 28 in passing for 180 yards while rushing for 50 yards on 19 carries. Malin had four receptions for 86 yards.

West End hosts Section this Friday (Sept. 18) in another region game.

Gaston fell to Ider, 17-17 in Class 2A, Region 7 action last Friday (Sept. 11) at HIS.

The Bulldogs (2-1, 1-1) took a 6-0 lead on Jordan Douglas’ 80-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Gilchrist, then went up 14-0 on D.J. Pope’s 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion. The Hornets eventually tied the score in regulation and won on a field goal in overtime.

Gaston host Spring Garden this Friday (Sept. 18).

Coosa Christian fell to Jacksonville Christian, 41-6, in Class 1A, Region 7 action last Friday (Sept. 11) in Gadsden.

The Conquerors’ lone score came on Caden Lipscomb’s 54-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Grizzard at 1:24 of the first quarter.

Lipscomb was 5 for 15 in passing for 119 yards, while Grizzard caught four passes for 117 yards. Mayor Kim rushed seven times for 43 yards.

Mikey Green had 13 tackles, followed by Kim with 12, Lipscomb with eight and Grizard with six. Grizzard had two interceptions.

The Conquerors’ (0-2, 0-2) continue region play this Friday (Sept. 11) at home against Woodville.
