Jessica Rathje pitched a weather -shortened no-hitter to propel Glencoe to a 3-0 softball victory over Hokes Bluff on Monday (Apr. 6) at GHS.
Played during a steady shower, the game was called in the top of the sixth inning when heavier rain moved into the area.
In five innings, Rathje struck out eight while walking one.
GHS head coach Amy Travis was pleased with her team’s performance.
“I am very proud of our team. Jessica has worked so hard, and she carries us all.”
The Lady Yellow Jackets (17-4-1) got all the runs they would need in the third inning. Jensan Napper led off with a single and Morgan Lyles reached base on an error, allowing Napper to score the game’s first run.
Rathje later walked, and a throwing error allowed two more runs to score to give Glencoe a 3-0 lead.
“We were in a rush from that point to get the fifth inning in to make it an official game,” said Travis.
