Sardis exploded for a 30-point halftime lead and cruised to a 58-30 opening round win in the Etowah County Schools Basketball Tournament on Monday (Jan. 18) at Gaston High.

Sardis coach Josh Wallace seemed happy with his team’s offense in the first half.

“We only have one senior and we play hard every night. The girls want to have a good tournament for Devin (Holsonback) this week.”

Holsonback paced the Lady Lions with 15 first-half points.

Sardis built a 19-3 lead after the first eight minutes and led 37-7 at the half.

Carley Gardner ended the night with a game-high 17 points as the Lady Lions led 45-17 after three quarters.

Tamia Timmons led the Lady Patriots with 14 points.

“Now we have to prepare to play Southside on Wednesday,” said Wallace.
