Oneonta improved to 9-2 on the year with a 50-26 win over visiting Sardis on Friday (Nov. 7) in the opening round of the Class 4A state football playoffs.
Defending state champion Oneonta hosts Haleyville this week in the second round.
The Redskins scored on all five first-half possessions and led 36-7 at the half.
Oneonta quarterback Zach Dimmock tossed touchdown passes of 17 and 7 yards to Trevor Smith, 23 yards to Riley Cole and 26 yards to Luke Wall in the first half.
Ko Powell scored on a 5-yard run on the opening possession of the game.
Sardis got on the board on an 83-yard kickoff return by Austin Hallmark with 4:01 to play in the second quarter.
The Redskins outgained the Lions 293-49 in the first half.
Dimmock had a 26-yard touchdown run to start the second half, and Tanner Moye added a 34-yard interception return late in the third quarter for the Redskins’ final points.
The Lions (5-6) got touchdown runs of 57 yards from Jesse Hubbard and 52 and 20 yards from Keenan Lewis in the fourth quarter.
Lewis finished the night with 157 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions.
